More About the eRIC Nitro Boards

Arduino boards are easily programmable. There is the benefit of a free development environment (IDE), a huge development community and a vast library of user contributed open source software. If you want a software library for a sensor or a peripheral chip, it probably already exists for the Arduino. Basing the eRIC Nitro design on Arduino hardware was an easy choice. The Arduino section of the eRIC Nitro is derived from an open source “Arduino Pro Mini” design by Sparkfun. There are a few changes. The addition of inductive filter L1 at the ATMega328 (IC1) power supply, a recommendation from Clemens Valens of Elektor. Another change is the clock source. The original 16MHz resonator has been replaced by component X1, an 8MHz version. This keeps the ATMega328 clock speed within the Atmel datasheet specification for a 3.3V supply.
